Garner Civitan Pop Warner Youth Football and Cheer
In 1962, the Club embarked on a project that has impacted more people in our community than any other, the Youth Football Program. Again, under the leadership of Carl Franks, who served as President in 1961-62, the Garner Civitan Club began sponsoring youth football, including cheerleading squads for each team. The program began with about thirty boys on the original teams. In 1969, the program became associated with the Pop Warner Youth Football Association in order to assure uniform rules and regulations were applied to all teams, and that the safety of the players was the first priority. The Club furnishes complete uniforms and equipment for all players. The program has grown over the years to the point that in 2009 the Club sponsored eight teams and involved more than 400 players, cheerleaders, coaches and volunteers. In 2008, the Club completed a standalone football building that provides organized storage for football equipment, uniforms and supplies, as well as space for football staff to handle registrations and other related duties. At its annual awards night in 2008, this facility was named the "Billy E. Stuart Football Center" to honor the decades of service Billy has provided to the Club, and particularly to the football program.
